Software
When running your bookkeeping business, software is a very important part of any business and having the right software can make the process much easier. The most recommended softwares to use for bookkeeping are QuickBooks, Xero, Microsoft Dynamics GP, FreshBooks, Wave Accounting, SlickPie and Sage 50cloud.
I have used all but a couple of the softwares above over the last 20 years. When it comes to using a software to take care of your clients. I highly recommend using QuickBooks Online to take care of your clients and stick to that until you get some good experience under your belt!
Quickbooks online is one of the most popular and most used bookkeeping software programs used by small to medium sized businesses. It is easy to use. It is a comprehensive accounting system that offers features such as invoice and payment tracking, customer management, payroll processing, expense tracking and more. The desktop version is still available for purchase but as A remote bookkeeper, I don't recommend going that route when they are really pushing to get everyone online and it isn't very easy or efficient when it comes to getting access.
Also, you can sign up as a Intuit Accountant and become a Certified Quickbooks Pro Advisor for free. Learning the software itself contributes to about 50% of your learning curve to becoming a great bookkeeper!
Even though I highly recommend QuickBooks Online to take care of your clients. Here are some of the features of the other softwares out there.
Xero is another popular bookkeeping software that provides a cloud-based platform for businesses to track their finances. It includes features such as bank reconciliation, invoicing and cash flow management. The software also allows users to create reports, set up budgets and generate financial statements.
